The Role at a Glance
Designer II — Residential Design & Drafting
North Wilkesboro, NC | Full-Time | On-Site
ExCo’s design department is growing, and we’re looking for a second set of hands on production drafting who can grow into more.
You’ll work directly under our VP of Design, turning approved concepts into buildable construction documents, and as you prove yourself, take on more direct client and design-direction responsibility. This is a designer role with real room to grow, not a drafting seat with a ceiling on it.
At ExCo Custom Homes, in-house design is our signature. Clients work with our team from first concept through construction, all under one roof, and every home we build is held to a standard that’s personal, not procedural.
What you’ll do
- Produce construction documents, plan sets, elevations, and detail applications in Chief Architect from the lead designer’s redlines and direction.
- Own accuracy and buildability on your drawings, since a plan set error becomes a field problem.
- Keep projects moving through our capacity system by maintaining design briefs, updating the WIP board, and flagging anything at risk of stalling.
- Coordinate directly with estimating and project management so drawings reflect real budgets and site conditions.
- Support client-facing gate meetings as you grow into the role, with a path toward owning design direction on smaller projects.
What we’re looking for
2+ years producing construction documents for residential projects using Chief Architect, AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable CAD software.
Working knowledge of residential construction methods and how they translate into an accurate plan set.
Comfortable taking direction and redlines from a lead designer and turning them into clean, buildable drawings under deadline.
Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple projects at once.
Direct experience with Chief Architect, a background in custom or high-end residential work, and a portfolio of residential plan sets are all a plus.
